St.Jetmund church

St.Jetmund church

The church of Saint Jetmund (Edmund) dates back to approx. 1150. Its name originates from the English king Edmund. According to the legend, he came travelling across Maurstadeidet, and resting at the place still named Jetmundleite, he pointed out the position of the church. King Edmund was killed by vikings during the 10th century, and was later on canonized a saint. The construction of the church was probably also related to the geographic vicinity to the convent of Selje.
